Sunday February 27, 2011

This was one of those busy weekends where many things were unplanned.

Friday night Jim and I were going to go to "Trader Joes" for date night. However about the time we were ready to walk out the door we received a phone call from friends to go out to eat. I guess we decided we always spend time with each other so we opted to go out to eat.

Saturday we went to the ISU men's basketball game. What a nailbiter. OT win by 1. Glad we got to see it. Love Fred Hoiberg as our new coach but it has been a tough season not helped any by injuries. Isn't that always the story. On the drive home we talked about going to the local boys game in Marshalltown. A win would send them to the state tournament. I think we kind of decided not to go as the game didn't start until 8:00 and it was going to be a long evening after we had already been gone all afternoon. But you guessed it.......we barely walked in the door and friends again called to see if we were going to the game. It's hard to say no to being around fun people, good friends. We had about an hour at home before we took off again. That game was another close one but not an overtime and they did pull out the win.

I don't really get into all the March Madness. If my teams win, great, but I don't really get all excited about it. I'd rather just have March go as fast as February did and have it be April and warmer, more sunny days to be outside. There is one plus this year. Working for Southeast Polk, I get out of school early at least one day this week as their girls are going to state. And I must admit, I want them to win, not so much for them, but if they do, then I get off work early again on Friday. Now that I get excited about.

So far 2011 has not been a great year for Mike, Leah and Caleb. Sickness has plagued them. This weekend Caleb was suppose to go to his Aunt Kristina's house while Leah stayed home and nursed Mike from his 4 wisdom teeth extraction. Late Friday afternoon, Caleb came down with a 101 fever, another ear infection/strep throat. So Jim and I have Caleb and Mike is moaning and groaning at home. Last report, he has finally eaten something (a pint of ice cream)! Caleb has run a fever off and on for me, but here he is currently fever free and enjoying the car and track.

Today I went snowshoeing with my friend Jill. It was a beautiful day even if the sun wasn't out. We went to Thomas Mitchell County Park and hiked from the pond over to the campground, through the picnic area and back to the pond. We really work up a sweat in our 90 minutes and never felt cold outside. However, we also always seem to go on days when the temps are in the high 20's or low 30's. Never thought to bring water along and I was getting very thirsty. As you can see, we stopped in the campground and while sitting on a picnic bench we decided to eat some CLEAN snow. The other picture is of my first fall on snowshoes. I don't really know what happened. I guess it was a failed course correction.
