Yesterday, May 29 was Mom and Dad's 63rd wedding anniversary. They said it snowed an inch the night before. Glad it was more summer like this year. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Last Tuesday brought Payton's graduation from Pre-school. They had a very cute little ceremony where the students sang some songs, walked across the stage to get their diploma and a video presentation of all the kids, followed by a reception of punch and cupcakes. He will start kindergarten this August.

Saturday brought what most of us consider the official beginning of summer and perfect weather to do lots of things. Leah and I went to the Farmer's Market, whew what a crowd. Later in the day we set up the pool. We got it up correctly the first time (unlike last year when we started to fill it before we realized we had it inside out). The evening brought a nice cookout of steak, potato salad, cesear salad, baked beans, watermellon, grilled asparagus and grilled garlic bread. YUM! A campfire followed. A good start to the holiday weekend.

May 23, 2010

Another weekend about over. May have to sleep downstairs tonight as we don't have the window ac units in the upstairs bedrooms yet and this humidity makes for less than comfortable sleeping!!

Saturday was a great day for garage saling (that doesn't look right). Anyway, I love to go to garage sales. I must admit, they are more fun if you have young children as they are a great way to find clothes and toys, but I can always find something I probably really don't need. Someone else's trash becomes your treasure. Let's see, what did I buy.......a chopper for the camper, a vase (with a smaller mouth than all of my other vases), a wagon for Caleb several $1 toys....but my best treasure was a $10 office chair. I love this chair...it rocks, I love to sit in my chair and rock and I bought it to take to my classroom in the fall. Now I just have to find a storage spot for it until then. Leah and I had to call my dad three times to bring his pickup for stuff, 1) my chair, 2) the wagon, 3) a desk for Leah and when she found an office chair for herself, I had to leave her behind and drive her car back to our house to get our pickup. While I feel my $10 chair was a great buy, she may have gotten the best buy....a Magic Bullet for $5 and it's nicer than my Magic Bullet. I haven't asked her if it works. Next garage sale will by the Copper Creek one in June. I love that one.

Sunday was confirmation and high school graduation recognition at church. We were invited to a dinner afterwards. Great food, hamburgers, the usual fixings/trimmings and a wide variety of salads. Why is it you think you haven't taken that much to eat and afterwards you feel explodingly full? That led to an afternoon nap on the couch followed by a trip to the greenhouse, Target and Lowes.

Jim filled the bird feeders tonight and we saw an Indigo Bunting. Those have to be my second favorite bird after the Cardinal. We have a lot of gold finches. Now if we can just attract an Oriole.

The weather seems dreadful this week but looks better for next weekend. Planning on my first trip to the farmer's market downtown next weekend. This is one of the three holiday weekends we don't try to go camping. We just stay out of everyone else's way.

I'll try to get my camera out next weekend for some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

The weekend started out good. Friday night was a perfect evening. The weather was finally gorgeous. I stayed with Caleb so Mike and Leah could have some time to themselves. Caleb enjoyed his swing while I played fetch with Hunter. Then we went for a short walk and then to the pond to watch Hunter play fetch in the water. Back to the swing and finally inside for some supper. He fell asleep and 10 minutes later Mom and Dad came home.

Saturday, I got some much needed shopping done and then a trip to Webster City to watch Mallory in her dance recital. Brings back memories of going to the Civic Center to watch Amy and Laura dance. It was another beautiful day to drive but the road construction has already started and I only had 10 minutes to spare in making it to the recital on time. Ice Cream afterwards and then back home.

Today I mowed at the farm after my Sunday afternoon nap. It sure is chilly today. I miss the sun again.

Have a great week everyone. We send our best wishes for an awesome time to Jason and Laura on their upcoming wedding this Friday. We will miss being there but will be with you in thought.

My apologies to Buster. Buster also joined us at the farm today with David and Alicia. Buster is their bassett hound, low to the ground, ears that droop to the ground, sad eyes. But boy can he move out when he wants to. I brought Hunter's red kong along and Buster was all about it, chasing after Hunter. We were all impressed with how fast Buster can run.

Later on Mother's Day afternoon, David, Alicia came back with Buster and some ice cream. We enjoyed a nice evening with them and my mom and dad sitting around a campfire.

The week ahead looks ugly, rain, rain and more rain. But at least we have next weekend to look forward to and what appears to be a sunny weekend. I hope this week goes by fast, very, very fast.

It's been a long time since I've been to the blog. Good intentions get side tracked by real life.

It's been three weeks ago (April 25) we took the 2010 maiden camping voyage, just a short ways to Thomas Mitchell park. However, the weather forecast was not good. We took the camper on Friday night and knew it was going to rain so left the camper and came home and grilled steaks and ate at home. The rest of the evening was spent playing cards with friends and family. Later Friday night Wendy, Joe and Hayley arrived from Minnesota. Saturday the sun came out and the women piled in the Suburban for a trip to the mall. The sun was out. By the time we got back to the campground we had a couple of hours before the thretening weather started again. This weather was worse than Friday night's rain. We ended up eating supper at our house again. We moved the car out of the garage and spent the rest of the evening sitting in the garage on lawn chairs visiting and listening to the radio from Jim's pickup. There were about 12 adults. Even though we weren't able to sit around a campfire, we had a great time. Sunday morning, the planned breakfast was all at the camper so I drove to the park and retrieved breakfast. We spent zero time at the camper but still had a fantastic weekend spending it with family and friends. Sunday when we got into the pickup to go back and get the camper to bring home, the pickup wouldn't start because it had been on accessory too long playing the radio. We just sat in the pickup and laughed, pbut the battery charger on and waited a couple of hours. It was a disaster of a weekend as far as camping is concerned but an overwhelming success for the good times and memories we made.

This weekend John and Kari and some friends camped out over at the farm. Saturday was cool and very windy, but Saturday night was a little better and today is beautiful. So far camping experiences this season have been less than ideal but we'll try again soon.

Today is Mother's Day. Mike and Leah went to Spencer. I was on Hunter detail so I put him in the backseat of the car and took him to the farm to run off some energy (and to keep him from eating his usual diet of remote controls when they're gone). David and Alicia joined us at the farm for a little campfire and a tractor tour of the farm to talk about different places to put a pond in the future. Later this afternoon there will be a trip to the ice cream store and then I'll have to go to work for a little bit.
