Happy 64th Wedding Anniversary Mom and Dad.

Today was an animal day at the Walker compound. With rain much of the day the sun finally came out late afternoon. We were able to get outside and mow some lawn. Jim found the snake skin of a large bull snake wrapped around the trunk of one of the bushes that was pulled earlier in the week. David and Alicia brought pizza and we sat around a campfired eating. David found a toad in the yard and dropped it in Alicia's lap. After screaming she retrieved it for a picture pose. After supper we went through the buffalo ranch on the way to Mike and Leah's for a big bonfire. Mary Ellen, Dalton, Mallory, Paul, Sue, Jake and Meredith joined us along with David and Alicia.

Today brought a brand new lawn mower to the Walkers on the Prairie. It is a Cub Cadet RZT50 zero turning. I told Jim he no longer had to worry about me mowing too close to things. It's going to take me a lot of practice to get use to this mower but I'm looking forward to the challenge (not that I want to mow all summer :) !!!

I finally got all of my flowers planted today. This is a job I usually have completed at the beginning of May, so I am about one month behind. I still may buy more, but for now I have my usual amount done in time for another rain tonight.

The new grill is finally put together. Jim did it in stages mostly by himself until the directions specifically stated "have your helper...." The new grill is both gas and charcoal with a side burner and an option to add a smoker. Tonight we charcoal grilled hamburgers. Something we haven't done for many, many years. It was a beautiful evening out, just the right temperatures and very little wind. We had a campfired in the back yard. Mom and Dad came out for and Daddy helped Jim attempt to pull some dead bushes out. Of the two bushes one came out, one didn't so there is more work ahead.

May 15, 2011 Mother's Day (a week later)

A week after the official Mother's Day (thanks to a rainy weekend) my boys took me out to the Machine Shed for supper tonight. The food there is always plentiful and good. We met at Hy-Vee where I was instructed to pick out a plant for the yard. I chose a Chicago Peace (pink?) rose bush. I've never had a rose bush so this will be interesting. It was a very nice evening with the my boys and wonderful daughter-in-laws. And as long as I'm on the subject of Mother's Day I want to say a thank you to step-son John who gave me a beautiful purple geranium basket. That was special and thoughtful. I am blessed with all my family.

Even though it was a depressing rainy weekend it didn't matter. I made a trip to Webster City to watch Mallory in her dance recital. She had 5 different numbers and didt an excellent job. It amazes me how girls that young are able to remember all those different routines. Mallory definitely knew what she was doing. Good Job Mal!!

Leah, Caleb, Alicia and I went to Tulip time in Pella last Saturday. It was the first time I had been in years. It was Alicia's first time. It was plenty warm but a very nice day. While walking down the street looking for a place to sit and eat and maybe watch the parade, we found relatives we haven't seen in awhile so we plopped down next to them and had a good time watching the parade.

This past weekend I took Friday off and we headed to Kansas City. Friday night we went to a Royals baseball game. It was a lovely evening with a come back win for the Royals over the Twins and Friday night fireworks. We stayed at a Fairfield Inn in Liberty. I am starting to love those hotels. We stayed in one in Colorado Springs last summer. The ones that are new or newly remodeled are very nice and they have the BEST breakfast. I get sick of every hotel we stay in having waffles and cereal, toast and bagels. YUCK! But this weekend we had omlets, bacon, biscuits and gravy, quiche, and other options available. OK they're not like eating at a restaurant but it was still pretty good for free. On the way home we stopped at the Jesse James' farmstead and museum. A very good video/film was watched before we took the tour of the homestead and the weather was beautiful. So we had a lovely 1 night 2 day mini vacation.

Where does time go. Seems like the work week doesn't go very fast but I look back and realize it has been a month since my last post. I had good intentions. Since the last post we've had the annual been and noodle supper at church where while fun wears us out. Easter weekend the Draegers came down from Webster City. Mary Ellen is such a good person always helping me work and do whatever projects I have on my mind. This time she and Mallory stripped the wallpaper in the bedroom they sleep in when they come home. Now all I have to do is get a new bed spread, pick out some paint and start painting.
